Gene M. Dickinson, 93, of Holton, KS passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at The Pines in Holton. She was born January 9, 1923 in Mayetta, KS the daughter of John Edward and Jewel (Burks) James.

Gene attended country grade schools and graduated from Mayetta High School in 1939. After graduation, she attended Kansas State University for one year. She had lived in the Holton community since 1990 and had previously lived on a farm between Holton and Whiting for 42 years.

At the age of 16, Gene worked for Security Benefit Assoc. farm and hospital complex in Topeka ironing for about 2 years. She was a farmwife and homemaker after her marriage.

Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Banner Grange for many years, both in Holton. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), Samuel Linscott Chapter, also in Holton.

She married Noel “Bill” Dickinson on October 18, 1942 in Hoyt, KS. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2014. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ann Wallis in 1994; a sister, Ruth Bradford and 2 brothers, Jack and Frank James.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Ellen Wallis of Overbrook, KS and Edith Davey of Canandaigua, NY; 2 sons, Jerry Dickinson (Lynne) of Holton, KS and Dennis Dickinson (Cynthia) of Spring Hill, KS; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial will follow in the Mayetta Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the D.A.R. Samuel Linscott Chapter, c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
