Floyd Lee Herring, 71, Valley Falls, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.

He was born May 23, 1945, at Topeka, the son of Floyd Earl and Annie E. Metzger Herring. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1963. He served in the US Army and was stationed in West Germany.

Lee was a farmer, welder, mechanic and truck driver. He farmed for 20 years, first at Transylvania, LA and later at Jones, LA. The family moved back to Valley Falls in 1987. He retired from Shuck Implement at Lawrence.

He married Mary F. Heinen, Dec. 30, 1967, at Valley Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ralph and Roger Herring.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; four sons, Pat Herring (Roxie), Tim (Becky) Herring, Rodney Herring, all of Valley Falls, and Kent Herring (Alisa), Topeka; a daughter, Dorothy Herring, Valley Falls; three brothers, Glen Herring, Meriden, Ron Herring, Winchester, and Merle Herring, Lafayette, LA; a sister, Linda Shaver, Meriden; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Herring, Bastrop, LA; and four grandchildren, Savannah, Kacie, Lucas and Dylan Herring.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Valley Falls at a later date. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Military honors will be conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, V.F.W. at the funeral home, Friday.
