Norma Bryant

Norma Bryant, 75, formerly of Valley Falls, surrounded by family, died Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Rae and husband Todd, at Lawrence.

She was born July 10, 1941, at Valley Falls, the daughter of Gilbert and Pearl Beasley Boyd. She spent time in Oregon as a child with her mother and father before moving back to Valley Falls, where she was raised by her father and grandmother. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1959.    

Norma worked for the State of Kansas as one of the first key punch operators for the first IBM computer in her department. She was a part-time librarian at the Delaware Township Library, cleaned homes, and baby-sat many children whom she considered as her own. She was a member of the Valley Falls Christian Church. Norma was a very spiritual person, loved reading her Bible and had a strong relationship with the Lord.

She married Buddy LeRoy Bryant Dec. 18, 1960, at Topeka. He died March 31, 2016. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Bryant, in infancy, her parents, and grandmother, Annie Ferguson Boyd.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Bryant, Lawrence, and Scott Bryant, Topeka; three daughters, Rae (Todd) Evans, Kelly Hall, and Tracy Bryant, all of Lawrence; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren (and awaiting another arrival); many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews; in-laws, Jim (Stacy) Musa, and Star Hummer, all of Topeka; and many friends.

The funeral ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22 , 2016, at the Valley Falls Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
