Wayne Edwin Monaghan, of Everest,  passed away on Monday June 20, 2016 at Horton Hospital at the age of 84.

Wayne was born on June 6, 1932 at Whiting, Kansas to John William and Dorothy Askew (Myers) Monaghan. He graduated from Whiting Rural High School in 1950. He served in the U. S. Army from February 1953 to December 1954. He served in the Korean War receiving the Korean Service medal, United Nations Service medal, and the National Defense Service medal. His skills from the military gave him his civilian job skills of bridge and road construction; where he enjoyed operating heavy equipment.

On April 24, 1955 in Beloit, Kansas, Wayne married Dotty Mae Scraper. She survives of the home after following him many years moving all over the state of Kansas finally, residing in Everest, Kansas. To the union were born five children: four daughters, Donna Stevens (Alan Gillen) of Peabody, Brenda (Tommie) Winters of Leona, Marsha (Tanner) Caldwell of Lowell, Arkansas and Lisa Marshall (Jeff Weems) of Baileyton, Tennessee; one son Thomas (Carey) Monaghan of Perry and that "Damn Cat": Pooh, of the home. There are sixteen grandchildren, two step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Dale (Lorna) Monaghan of Topeka and W. Daryl (Elsie) Monaghan of Hiawatha and one sister: Maxine Pollom of Ottawa and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Carol Monaghan and Lyle Monaghan, two sisters: Eudene Behrnes and Ilene Merz, a son-in-law: Jaymes Marshall, one grandson: Jamie Stevens, and one step great granddaughter: Hailey Vaughan.

Upon Wayne's wishes, his body was to be cremated and no formal services to be held. The family will be gathering at The Horton Blue Building, Horton, Kansas on Saturday June 25, 2016 from 2 pm to 8 pm if you wish to give your condolences.
