Andrea R. Contreras, 91, Atchison, Kansas died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at her home surrounded by many family members.

Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB and Fr. Richard Rocha as celebrants.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A parish rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with visitation following until time of Mass at the church.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Mexican Sisters, St. Benedict Parish or Atchison Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Andrea was born on November 29, 1924 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Julian and Aniceta Rodriguez Gonzales.  She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School.

She and Charles David Contreras, Sr., were united in marriage on June 29, 1946 at Sacred Heart Church.  Mr. Contreras preceded her in death on July 20, 2004.

Andrea was a stay-at-home Mom, tending to the needs of her children.  Following her children’s education, she went to work at Wilson Company and later in the housekeeping department of the Atchison Hospital until her retirement in 1990.

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish, where she was an active participant of St. Joseph’s Church and the Altar Society of the Church.  She also was a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include, two sons, Charles (Linda) Contreras, Jr., Atchison, KS; Frank (Cheryl) Contreras, Atchison, KS; eight daughters, Maryann (Gregg) Elsner, San Angelo, TX; Carmen (Mike) Sherman, Gladstone, MO; Hope (Allen) Trower, Topeka, KS; Martha (Paul) Blotkamp, Lincoln, NE; Marcellina (Kevin) Handke, Atchison, KS; Sandra (Wayne) Brooke, Atchison, KS; Pamela (Terry) Larkin, Atchison, KS; Anita (Terrell) Runyan, Leavenworth, KS, a sister, Cecilia (Sonny) Hiner, Atchison, KS, thirty two grandchildren, forty five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Gummie, Gregory, Shorty, Joe, Max, Frank and Lupi and two sisters, Bea Kohler and Mary Rocha.
