Kathy Munson, 71, Atchison, Kansas, died Sunday, May 22, 2016, at her home. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday May 27, 2016 at St. Benedict’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be Thursday, May 26th at 6:30 P.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will follow until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict School Endowment or Mount St. Scholastica and may be left in care of the funeral home. Kathy was born June 2, 1944, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of William Ralph and May Cudmore Moss. She attended St. Mary’s Elementary and High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She then attended Mount St. Scholastica and Benedictine College. 

She and Stan Munson were united in marriage on June 3, 1967, at Broadmoor Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

Kathy was employed as a teacher at St. Benedict Catholic School, formerly Atchison Catholic Elementary School for 33 years.  She began her teaching career at Atchison Junior-Senior High School, then taught at Potter, Kansas and later at Atchison County Community High School before coming to ACES.

Kathy was an active member of St. Benedict Parish and participated in Adoration at the church.  She was also a longtime volunteer at the Sofia Center at Mount St. Scholastica.

Survivors include her husband of forty eight years, Stan Munson of the couple’s home, a daughter, Susie (Tim) Pfannenstiel, Hays, KS, three sons, Rob (Mia) Munson, Shawnee, KS, David (Trish) Munson, Brookshire, TX, Dan Munson, Kansas City, MO, a sister, Mary Lynn Kilibarda, Orr, MN and seven grandchildren, Bailey, Chase, Sloan, Alex, Jack, Nate and Colin.
