Gerald Meyer
Sabetha , KS

Gerald H. Meyer, 89, Sabetha passed away May 8, 2016. He was born April 1, 1927 at home in Bern, KS to Henry and Maude ( Williams ) Meyer. He grew up in the Bern/Oneida area attending Oneida schools and graduated from Seneca High School.

Gerald loved his country and left high school early to join the Navy during World War Two. Gerald was a life time member of the VFW and former president of the Sabetha VFW.

He married Betty Jean King on September 8, 1948 who proceeded him to heaven on July 1, 2011.

Gerald was a farmer and avid sports fan. He also loved horses and rodeo. At one time, he had 30 quarter horses. Gerald had a horse (Trotter ) and a buggy which he enjoyed riding in many local holiday parades. He loved country music, especially Reba McEntire, and he loved to dance.

He was also preceded to heaven by his parents; brother- Joy Meyer and wife Betty, sister -Mavis Milne and husband John, grand daughter- Stacy Meyer Griffith, great grandson- Drew Bradbury, and his late life companion Phyllis Herdon.

Survivors include his children Gerald L. Meyer of Overland Park, KS, Rick G. Meyer of Sabetha, KS, and Coni K. Fenton and husband Tom of Topeka, KS, two sisters- Eleanor Hewitt/Thompson of Sabetha, Freda Kinney of Topeka, KS, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM on Monday May 16 at the United Methodist Church in Sabetha, KS. Funeral service will be at 11:00 following the visitation at the church with burial to follow at the Albany cemetary.
