Joyce A. Pickman, 62, Atchison, Kansas died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A parish rosary will be recited at 4:00 P. M. on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at St. Benedict Church with visitation with the family to follow at church until 7:00 P. M.   Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict School; Trinity Lutheran School or Joyce A. Pickman Memorial Fund at Achiev ement Services and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.  Online condolences may be left at arensbergpruett.com.

Joyce was born September 2, 1953 in Falls City, Nebraska the daughter of Wilbur and Darlene Haeffele Durfee.  She attended Trinity Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Atchison High School in 1971.  She was inducted into the National Honor Society while a student at Atchison High School.

She and Steven J. Pickman were united in marriage on August 2, 1974 at St. Joseph’s Church in Atchison, Kansas.

Joyce began her employment at Valley State Bank as a teller and during her fourteen year tenure with the bank was promoted to executive Vice-President. In 1987 she joined the staff at Atchison Achievement Services as director of finance and in charge of client housing where she has served for twenty nine years until her death.  During her service at achievement services she received numerous awards, including RRHAK site manager of the year in 2004, USDA Rural Development of Northeast District manager of the year and FMHA District 3 manger of the year.  

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish and the Altar Society of the church. Joyce favorite past time was springtime planting of flowers in her yard and hanging baskets around her home.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Pickman, of the couple’s home, a son, Ryan J. Pickman, Manhattan, KS, a daughter, Jennifer Armstrong, Kansas City, MO, her mother, Darlene Durfee, Atchison, KS, and a brother, Terry Durfee, St. Joseph, MO.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Durfee.
