Dolores Jeannine Smith, 79, of Holton, KS, formerly of Whiting and Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Medicalodges Jackson County. She was born May 21, 1936 in Whiting, KS the daughter of Stanley R. and Irene V. (Andrick) Knutsen.

 Dolores graduated from Whiting High School in 1954. She was a housewife, loving mother and farmwife for 12 years while living in Whiting. Dolores then moved to Topeka and worked for Goodell Law Firm as a filing clerk for 20 years. While in Topeka she and her husband built their own home and enjoyed it for over 40 years. She attended Countryside Christian Church in Topeka.

She married Duaine W. “Bud” Smith on May 15, 1954 in Whiting. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1996.

Survivors include 2 sons, Daniel D. Smith (Becky) of Topeka, KS and Steven M. Smith (Michelle) of Valley Center, KS; a daughter, Bonnie Carlson (Ron) of Burlingame, KS; 3 sisters, Leota Schneider (Ralph) of Mound City, KS, Christina “Tina” Bohnenkemper (Gaylen) of Holton, KS and Joyce Daily (Ed) of Netawaka, KS; 2 brothers, Lowell Knutsen (Doris) of Waverly, KS and Donald Knutsen of Horton, KS and 6 grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Riley and Markie Smith and Cole and Jacob Carlson.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery in Whiting. She will lie in state at the funeral home beginning Saturday afternoon.
