Marlene Ruth Dodd, 80, of rural Oneida passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

Marlene was born to John and Emma (Erdley) Fuhrman on August 27, 1935 in Hiawatha, Kansas. She attended Hiawatha Grade School and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1953. Marlene graduated from Highland Community College in 1955. She also graduated from State Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska in 1969 and also K-State Master’s Program in 1978.

She married Donald Dodd on May 3, 1957 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Marlene taught school in Corning, Kelly, Wetmore, and St. Benedict, and retired in 1995 and continued to substitute teach for many years. She enjoyed aerobics at Life Care Center, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed holidays and having the whole family together.

Marlene and Don were members of the Oneida United Methodist Church.  They were both avid square dancers and were members of the Sabetha Sunflower Club from 1979 to 1997 and members of the Seneca Squares from 1997 to 2013. She was a member of the (KNEA) Kansas National Educational Association, and the Women’s Christian Club.

Marlene is preceded in death by her parents; her son, James on January 21, 2013; her husband, Don on October 23, 2015, and her, brother George Fuhrman on October 29, 2015.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Clark and her husband, Charlie of Silver Lake, Kansas and Joy Lednicky and her husband, James of Horton, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Dodd of Seneca, Kansas; grandchildren, Nichole (Bob) Koch, Melissa (John) Williamson, Rachel Dodd, Hannah Dodd, Holly (Nick) Leach, Nick Clark, Jamie Clark, Neil (Jessica) Lednicky, Emily Lednicky; six great-grandchildren, and one arriving in May.

Funeral service is Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Popkess Memorial Chapel in Seneca, Kansas. Visitation is Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery.
