Al E. "Wish" Winkelbauer

Al E. "Wish" Winkelbauer, 95, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Mission Village Living Center in Horton, Kansas. He was born on January 22, 1921 in Horton, Kansas the son of Robert and Christina Bichlmeier Winkelbauer. After high school Al served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. On February 13, 1947 he married Rita M. Schuetz at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. He was a carpenter building houses with his brother. Al was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW and the American Legion. Al enjoyed doing carpentry work for his children and grandchildren. Al and Rita enjoyed playing cards with their family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Rita of the home; daughters, Caroline (Deril) Hosford of Wichita, Kansas and Beverly (Larry) Robinett of Gladstone, Missouri; two sons, Wayne (Patti) Winkelbauer and Thomas (Sharon) Winkelbauer; three brothers, Cyril Winkelbauer and Leonard Winkelbauer both of Horton, Kansas and Donald Winkelbauer of Sun City, Arizona; twelve grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Frances Sisk, DeLores Armstrong and Dorothy Agnes Purcell, two grandsons, Bradley Winkelbauer and Sean Robinett. 

Funeral Mass will be at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends following the rosary. Burial will be at the St. Leo's Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of the mortuary. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
