Mary Margaret (Larson) Meyer, Hiawatha, died Friday, December 25, 2015 at Vintage Park of Hiawatha. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Meyer worked for the Brown County Conservation District and Soil Conservation Service from 1964 to 1986. She later served as church secretary at the First Baptist Church, Hiawatha, for 11 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church where over the years she served in many capacities, including a term as deaconess. She was born August 31, 1931 near Horton, Kansas, the daughter of the late Fred and Geneva (Webb) Larson. She attended Atchison County schools through the 8th grade, went to Everest High School as a freshman, and graduated from Hamlin High School in 1949. After graduation, she worked at the Brown County ASCS office for two years. Mrs. Meyer married Wayne Meyer on February 26, 1950 in Hamlin. He preceded her in death in 2001. Mary Margaret was also preceded in death by a sister Della Pyle. Survivors include two sons, Russell Meyer and Roger (Angie Orton) Meyer, both of Hiawatha; a daughter, Carol (Frank) Mercurio, Scott City, KS; a brother, Delbert (Pat) Larson, Hiawatha; three granddaughters, Gina (Riley) Hendricks, Monroeville, PA; Lisa (Matt) Boksha, Midland, MI; and Denise Meyer, Branson, MO; and one step-great granddaughter, Alina, Midland. A Celebration of Mary Margaret’s Life is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Hiawatha. Jerry Boaz will officiate. Family will visit friends one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha. Friends may call at the funeral home until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
