Doris "Grace" Kohake

Doris “Grace” Kohake, 83, of Seneca died on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at her home in Seneca.

Grace was born on December 12, 1931 to George and Irene Stallbaumer Fangman of St. Benedict, Kansas. She attended St. Mary’s School, graduating in 1949.

On January 20, 1951, she married William C. Kohake at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict, Kansas. They farmed in the Baileyville area for many years. Grace and her son Terry operated the Kohake Freezer Service for 10 years. In 1987, Bill and Grace “retired” and moved into Seneca. Grace managed the Knights of Columbus Clubroom until it closed.  Bill and Grace enjoyed 57 years of marriage, before his death on January 12, 2008.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, St. Ann’s Society, and a former member of the Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. She served as an officer on the Altar Society. She was a past Treasurer of USD 451 School Board. Grace was Committee Woman for Center Township for many years; she also volunteered for over 35 years for the Election Board. She loved to quilt, cook and play cards; she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.  

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, James Kohake on January 12, 1971; her parents, George and Irene and her stepmother, Aurelia Fangman; her brothers, Mark Fangman, Fr. Wilfred Fangman, Leo Fangman and Tom Fangman.  

She is survived by her sons, Edward (Cindy) Kohake of Silver Lake, Kansas, Robert Kohake and Lynn (Julie) Kohake both of Baileyville and Terrence Kohake of Tecumseh, Nebraska; a daughter, Kathleen (Keith) Koerperich of Topeka; brothers, Wilbert Fangman of Newton, Richard Fangman of Silver Lake, and Eugene Fangman of Seneca; a sister, Therese Beaty of Kansas City, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 2 & 7 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca, Kansas.
