Jack VanTilburg

Jack F. VanTilburg of Elgin, Illinois, passed away on August 5, 2015 at Heritage Health Center in Elgin.
 
Jack was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 14, 1935. After the family relocated to Northeast Kansas, he graduated from Powhattan High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Kansas State University where he was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity. Upon graduation, he served four years in the Army as a First Lieutenant.
 
Jack was married to Donna Lee Ottman,
at Onaga, Kansas on October 5, 1958. They lived in Champaign and Streator, Illinois where they owned and operated the Streator Dairy Queen from 1988 until their retirement in 2002.
 
Jack is survived by a daughter, Jackie Kuizenga, a son-in-law Marcus Kuizenga and four grandchildren, Jillian, Kathryn, Lukas, and Matthew Kuizenga, all of St. Charles, Il. He is also survived by a sister, Karla Williams and a brother-in-law Dale of Hiawatha, Kansas and a brother-in-law Terry Ottman of Horton, Kansas.
 
Jack is preceded in death by his mother and step-father Lenna Landon VanTilburg Strube and Karl Strube, his wife Donna VanTilburg, two sons, David Joseph VanTilburg and Daniel Ray VanTilburg.

A Celebration of Jack’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, October 10, at the Powhattan United Methodist Church, with Reverend Priscilla Davies officiating. Military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Honor Guard. Private family inurnment will follow at the Onaga Cemetery.
 
In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, the family asks that they take their families to their local Dairy Queen and have a treat in memory of Jack.
