Wilma Jean Thompson

Wilma Jean Thompson, 72, of Woodlawn died on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Sabetha Community Hospital after battling cancer for several years.

Wilma was born in Sabetha, Kansas to Albert and Louise (Bauerle) Ackerman on June 23, 1943.    She attended and graduated from Sabetha High School.  After graduation she married, Darryl Thompson of Woodlawn and worked for the ASCS office in Seneca for a period of time.  She then became a homemaker raising their three children: Alan, Duane and Carmen and helping her husband on the family farm.  

She was a member of the local 4-H group growing up and she loved spending time with her family.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Ackerman.  She is survived by her husband, Darryl Thompson of Sabetha; three children, Alan Thompson, Duane Thompson and Carmen Griffin all of Sabetha; one brother, Robert Ackerman of Seneca; three sisters, Twila Johnson of Pflugerville, Texas, Anna Gehrt of Paxico, Kansas and Julia Jackson of Manhattan, Kansas along with grandkids and great grandkids.

Funeral service is Monday, August 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha.   A visitation will be held Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  The interment will be made in the Woodlawn Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to Sabetha Goes Pink Cancer Fund or Angela McGuire Memorial Scholarship Fund, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Kansas  66534.
