On July 23, 2015, our wife, mother and dear friend to so many was taken home to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.  

Evelyn was a wonderful servant of the Lord.  She shared her faith with many. 

She was cared for in her home for three years by her loyal husband, her children, her nurse Maria, friend Claudia and so many other friends and relatives. She was also cared for by Crossroads and Kansas City Hospice.

She was born June 14, 1934 to Dan and Bertha Springer in Denton, KS., where she was raised and lived with her sister Nancy and beloved nephew Howard “Bud” Bowland. She was joined in marriage to R. Stanley Hanson on November 27, 1952 at Denton Methodist Church.

She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church for over 50 years and served on many committees, including but not limited to LWML, Evangelism and Sunday school teacher.  Whatever Evelyn did she did willingly with a sweet disposition and a ready smile.

Her occupation was a hairdresser.  She didn’t just create beautiful hairstyles, she also created beautiful friendships.

Evelyn’s joy was her family.  She made sure they were all together and knew the value of family.  She was and is an inspiration to her daughters to be devout Christians, loving wives, patient and affectionate mothers and grandmothers.  She loved her son-in-laws as if they were her own children.  In her eyes, her grandchildren were flawless and faultless.  She was a surrogate mother, grandmother and wonderful friend to so many.  She opened her home and her heart and touched countless people’s lives.  She was very generous and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for those she knew and those she didn’t.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Stanley; her children, Katherine Warwick (Jim) of Coulter, IA., Margaret Watkins (Jerry) of St. Louis, MO., Elizabeth Howey (Gene) of Mission, KS. She is a grandmother to Nate, Malinda, Danielle, Joel, Robert and his girlfriend Angela, Ryan, and Liam.  She is a great grandmother to Sadie, Chase, Lillian, Skylar, Riker, Sloane and Finn.  She is survived by sister-in-law Marilyn Suman, 11 nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and multiple extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dan and Bertha Springer, her brothers Dale, Howard, Robert and sister Nancy Bowland Linn.  She was also preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law Selmer and Alice Hanson, sister and brother-in-law Rosemary and William Barrand.

It is with great sadness that we had to let go of Evelyn’s hand but with great joy that the next hand she took was Jesus’.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 1st at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 4153 Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66103, with service following at 11 AM.  After the service there will be a luncheon. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha, KS.
