David Lee Harrington, 65, Valley Falls, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.

He was born Nov. 3, 1949, at Ness City, the son of John and Mary Irene Scheid Harrington. He graduated from Solomon High School and in 1969 graduated from Capitol City Barber College in Topeka.

Dave was a barber for 47 years as the owner of Ideal Barber Shop in Atchison.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls.

He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6671 in Valley Falls and had served as Grand Knight.

He married Gerianne Riedel, April 28, 1973, at Valley Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mike Harrington and a nephew, Scott Harrington.

Survivors include a son, Tim (Anne) Harrington, Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Laura (Jason) Kirkwood, Valley Falls, Beth (Jeff) Brown, Valley Falls, and Melody (Casey) Keirns, Nortonville; a brother, Pat (Tracy) Harrington, Valley Falls; sister-in-law, Nancy Harrington, Valley Falls; and nine grandchildren, Paige Clayton, Reagan Kirkwood, Korie Kirkwood, Lauren Brown, Lillian Brown, Connor Keirns, Jack Keirns, Dylan Keirns and Alexander Heinz-Harrington.

Dave had a strong faith. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved to read, barbecue, be outdoors, and tell stories. His clients valued his friendship greatly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, at the church followed by a visitation.
