Gladys Ireland, Holton, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at The Pines. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Mercer Funeral Home followed by burial at the Spring Hill Cemetery near Whiting.  Visitation will take place at the Mercer Funeral Home 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 
Gladys was born November 17, 1917, near Whiting the last of six children of Frank and Edith Wilder Maxwell. She graduated from Walnut Grade School and Whiting High School.  She was also a graduate of the Menninger Bible Class.  On February 28, 1942, Gladys married Ralph Ireland in Holton. Together they farmed for nearly fifty years in Straight Creek Township.  Ralph preceded her in death in May 1990.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Maudie, Jim, Frank (Deak), Mary, and Howard (Bus).
 
Gladys was a member of the Muscotah United Church.  In Holton she attended the First Presbyterian Church and later the United Methodist Church.  Her interests were many, including bowling and the Bible, cooking, crocheting and knitting, the Democratic Party, exercise, gardening, the Holton Senior Citizens Center, K-State athletics and the NBA, and reading.  Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She enjoyed a wide circle of friends, good and kind to all.

Survivors include two sons: Timothy Ireland of Columbia, Missouri; and Patrick Ireland and wife Sherry of Muscotah; and one daughter: Katherine Zant of Sarasota, Florida.  Additional survivors include five grandchildren: Aric Babson and wife Delphine, Kate Ireland, Molly Ireland and partner Tyler Davis, and Joey and Jordan Zant.
