Gilbert Broxterman

Gilbert Broxterman, 89, of Baileyville, KS, died early Friday morning, May 15, 2005 at Life Care Center in Seneca. 

He was born January 5, 1926, the son of Fred J. and Clara Lierz Broxterman on a farm southwest of Baileyville. He attended Star School and Baileyville School. Gilbert worked for his parents on their farm for a short time after school.  Later Gilbert went to work for Fred Haug for a few years and then he moved to a farm southeast of Axtell. He returned to the area and bought Joe Lierz farm and lived there until he retired and moved into Baileyville in 1988. 

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus 1769.  He loved to fish and a good card game, bowling, dancing and his trips to the casino to visit with his friend. 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Galen Broxterman on September 21, 1971; five sisters, Maleta Gress on November 25, 1984, Mildred Haug on June 2, 2001, Rita Burdiek on April 18, 2007, Evelyn Burdiek on May 24, 2010 and Mary Ann Holthaus on May 6, 2005;

Gilbert is survived by two brothers, Cletus Broxterman of Baileyville and Daniel Broxterman of Seneca; and a sister, Maxine Strathman, of Seneca. a special friend Eleanor Scheetz of Beatrice, NE.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, May 18, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM Sunday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
