Robert Eugene “Bob” Pickman, 83, Atchison, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2015 after a brief illness surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with Abbot James Albers, OSB, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited on Monday, April 27th, at 6:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 7:30 P.M.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict’s Abbey, Maur Hill-Mt. Bob was born April 2, 1932, in Atchison, Kansas, to Peter and Catherine Weinmann Pickman.  He was the seventh of thirteen children. He grew up on the Pickman farm in the vicinity of St. Patrick’s community. 

Bob married Dorothy Blasi on January 18, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Atchison. Which prompted an eighteen inch snowstorm that closed highways. 

They have resided in Atchison all of their married life. The last 50 years their home was the location of many family and social gatherings.

Bob was employed by LFM for sixteen years. He later worked for Page Airways in Atchison for 24 years as a tool and gauge inspector until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of St. Benedict Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #723, and an Honorary Life Member of the Fourth Degree William T. Jochems General Assembly #1716. 

Bob enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard and playing pitch, where his grandsons were always known to take his money. His greatest enjoyment came from his family gatherings and teasing his nieces and nephews. 

Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home, six children, Jeannie (Mike) Jones, Sunrise Beach, MO, Mary Anne Strasburg, Atchison, KS, Roberta (Gary) Carter, Kansas City, MO, Pat (Kathleen) Pickman, Bendena, KS, Geri (Mick) Harris, Atchison, KS, Julie Domann, Shawnee, KS, two brothers, Jerome and Marcellus “Bud” Pickman, six sisters, Rosie Gambon, Helen Zishka, JoAnn Scherer, Catherine Oliver, Betty DeHaven, Virginia Kuckelman, 14 grandchildren and a great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Aloysius, Carl and Bill Pickman, and a sister Mary Darrenkamp.
