Dorothy M. Plager

 Dorothy M. Plager, 88, of rural Humboldt passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh.  She was born to Eli and Lydia (Borrenpohl) Plager on August 5, 1926 at the family farm near Elk Creek, Nebraska. She was baptized August 29, 1926 and confirmed September 14, 1941 at St. James Lutheran Church, rural Humboldt, Nebraska.  Dorothy attended Greenfield Country rural School across from the farm through the eighth grade.  

   She lived on the family farm with her brother Virgil. Family was very important to her. Dorothy worked as a housekeeper for Edwin and Nettie Beethe, Mrs. Clark in Johnson and several others.  She and Arlene Burow cleaned the church for many years.  Dorothy loved helping with both sewing and quilting at St. James.  Dorothy enjoyed raising a big garden and working outdoors.  She was a sweet, kind, gentle soul.  Dorothy looked forward to celebrating birthdays and going out to lunch for many years with her longtime friends, Arlene, LeAnna and Eileen who called themselves the “James Girls.”  

  Dorothy became a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh in October of 2010 due to a fall at home. She enjoyed her time there doing crafts and visiting with others. She passed away there peacefully on March 1, 2015 at the age of 88 years. 

  She is survived by her brothers, Virgil “Curly” Plager of rural Humboldt and Ed Plager and wife Evayline of Elk Creek, nephew, Glenn Plager and wife Becky of Elk Creek and nieces, Christy Waring and husband Russ of Tecumseh and Karen McCoy and husband Matt of Syracuse, great nephews, Mason, Eli and Jack Waring and Will McCoy and great nieces, Kelsee Gillam and fiancée Justin Sayer, Zadie Plager and Ava McCoy, great-great nieces, Quinlee and Peri Sayer.   

   Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Lydia.

  Funeral services will be held at the St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church, rural Humboldt, Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015 with Pastor Amalia Spruth-Janssen officiating.    Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 7-8 p.m.   Memorials may go to the family’s choice.  Interment will be in the St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Cemetery, rural Humboldt, Nebraska.  Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
