Ervin "Erv" Richard Brewer

Ervin “Erv” Richard Brewer, Atchison, went home Wednesday, January 28, 2015 to be with his son, Richard Dean, his father, Erwin and his beloved uncle, Del at his home in Atchison.


A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. with visitation with family and friends following at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.  Erv will be cremated.


Erv was a faithful and dedicated employee at Rockwell Steel Foundary, originally LFM, and what now is Bradkin Steel Foundry, for the past forty one years.  Erv started as a cutter and welder then on to becoming one of the best moulders the foundary ever had.  When Erv could no longer work in the foundary, he became the “Helmet Guy” working in the Helmet Shack where he would clean and repair helmets.  Erv loved his job, took pride in everything he did and enjoyed the men and women he worked with, many of them becoming close friends.


Erv was born in Troy, New York later moving to Gloversville, New York and eventually to Cummings, Kansas living with Delbert and Mary Ann Brewer.  Erv attended JU-4 and on to ACCHS.
In 1971 Dianna Jean Scheid became Erv’s wife followed by the birth of a daughter, Patricia Dawn and a son Richard Dean who passed shortly after birth.  In 1994 Dianna lost her battle with diabetes.  In 1996 Erv married Renita “Randy” Friesen.  They lived in several places and eventually settled in Atchison.  Erv and Renita were married for eighteen years.


Erv is survived by his wife Renita, daughter, Patricia (George) Wykert of Bern, KS, three grandchildren, Kerya (Carl Miller) Wykert, St. Joseph, MO, Nroh (Jeremy Gage), Troy, KS and Damacar Wykert of Bern with his parents, sisters, Pat (Mike) Wytrwal and Dawn (Gary) Meyer of Gloversville, NY, Delanne (Terry) Burk of Greenville, IL, Juanita (Tim) Gregorie of Norton, KS, Katie (Mike) Schelp of Kansas City, MO and a brother, Tom Brewer of Augusta, KS, an aunt Mary Ann Brewer and aunt Minnie Graves both of Atchison.  Many nieces and nephews.


Erv was preceded in death by his son, Richard Dean, his father, Erwin Delbert Brewer, several aunts and uncles.


The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home of Atchison, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.
