Frances Morgan McCoy

Frances Morgan McCoy, 95, of Hiawatha, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015.  She was born November 21, 1919, in Kingwood, West Virginia, the daughter of Sena M. and George W. Hogg.

She was a graduate of the University of Michigan, earning a B.A. in English. She later returned to West Virginia where she taught in public schools.

She married Thomas Alfred McCoy on August 2, 1947.  They returned to Hiawatha where they owned a dairy farm for many years.

Frances was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, Hiawatha.

She most enjoyed her family, travel and a lifelong passion for learning.  

She was an avid reader and accomplished seamstress who cared for many stray dogs and loved a hot cup of tea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by three children, Michael (Shelle),Topeka; Margaret (John Anderson) McCoy, Prairie Village; and Kathryn (Maurice, deceased)Breidenthal, Wichita. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Tully (Nicole) McCoy and Anne McCoy Wilson (Brian); Matt (Amy), John (Kasey), Mark (Jarrica) Breidenthal; Carolyn (Chris) Rocco and Morgan (Crystal) Stepp. Frances also shared her love with twelve great-grandchildren, Tully and Rory McCoy, Michael and Sarah Wilson; Maxwell and Nora Breidenthal, Kellen and Clay Breidenthal, Peyton Breidenthal (expected in February; and Madelyn Elder, Parker and Xaiden Stepp.

The family recently enjoyed celebrating Frances’ 95th birthday.

She leaves a legacy of learning, teaching, exploring and service to those she loved and whose lives she touched.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care Frances received at Maple Heights Nursing Center in Hiawatha.

A private memorial service is planned for February 7, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, Topeka.
