John Lawrence Harnden Jr., 62, Valley Falls, formerly of Basehor, died unexpectedly at his home, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015.
He was born Nov. 29, 1952, at Kansas City, KS, the son of John Lawrence and Wilma Cecilia McGraw Harnden Sr.
John had retired in 2008 from the General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, KS after 30 years of service. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 31. He was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 6671 in Valley Falls.
He married Barbara Klamm. They later divorced. He married Mary T. VandeVelde Cupp April 28, 2006, at Leavenworth. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Amy Miles.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; two daughters, Bridget Winkler, Leavenworth, and Nicole Harnden, Tonganoxie; a step-son, Ryan Snyder, and a step-daughter, Tiffany Snyder, both of Overland Park; three brothers, Bill, Mike and Danny Harnden; three sisters, Helen Ireland, Chris Hill, and Michele Harnden; nine grandchildern and one great-grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. A Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls, with visitation to follow.
