Janet S. McKinsey, 79, of Verdon, NE, passed away December 20, 2014 at Falls City, NE. She was born February 23, 1935 at Lincoln, NE to the late Wiley and Helen (Schafer) Miner.

She married Gene Schernecke in 1962. He passed away in 1964. On August 14, 1982 she married Dean McKinsey at Verdon.

Janet was raised in the Verdon area and graduated from Verdon High School in 1952. She attended Wesleyan University at Lincoln and transferred to Kansas State University and graduated in 1956. Following graduation she worked for Sears in Kansas City and then moved to Topeka. She moved to New Jersey and worked for an insurance company before joining her father in the turf business and she became manager of Princeton Turf Farms. She returned to Verdon in 1982 and when married the couple established their home in Verdon where she helped on the farm and raised a large garden. She was a lifetime member of the Richardson County Humane Society.

Janet is survived by her husband, Dean McKinsey of Verdon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.

A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday. No viewing or visitation.
