Dennis Ray Bedford, 56, of the Newman Community of rural Perry, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the scene of a one vehicle accident west of Perry. Dennis was born March 10, 1958 at Pierre, South Dakota, the son of Dallas Wilbur and Phyllis Mae Holmes Bedford. He was a 1976 graduate of Perry-Lecompton High School. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Hamm Company in Perry and had formerly worked 14 years at the Loring Quarries in Bonner Springs. As the “Un-Official Mayor” of Newman, he served as a coach and was very active with the Perry Ball Association and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed K-State, the Chiefs, the Royals and anything to do with sports. He was the reigning recipient of the “Clark Griswold Award” for Christmas lighting in the Newman Community. He was married to Lisa Kay Brannock on June 27, 1981 in Perry, she survives at the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Adam Peterson) Bedford, Overbrook, Mallory Bedford, Kansas City, MO., one sister, Brenda Bedford Peak (Jeff Fuhrman), Highland, one brother, Donald Bedford, address unknown, and his only granddaughter, “Gorgeous” Lilyana Grace Peterson, Overbrook. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Russell “Rusty” Bedford and his beloved dog, “Jack”. A Memorial Celebration of Life Gathering will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the Perry American Legion Building.
