Rita Ann Marie Lackey, 93, Atchison, Kansas died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Atchison Hospital.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant.  Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A parish rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 25th at 6:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation with the family to follow until 8:00 P.M.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish or Mt. Rita was born September 8, 1921 in Lindsay, Nebraska the daughter of Joseph B. and Marie Catherine Ball Keimig.  At a young age she moved with her family to Atchison, Kansas.  Her first four years of school were at Deer Creek School, a one room school and then attended St. Benedict’s Elementary School.

She and Robert Joseph Lackey were united in marriage on October 10, 1945 at St. Benedict’s Church, Atchison, Kansas and enjoyed 61 years of marriage.  Mr. Lackey preceded her in death on December 15, 2006.
Rita was employed with Horton Garment Factory for two years and then with Stein Laboratory for ten years as an assembly person in electrical parts.  She retired in 1983.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the Altar Society of the church, American Legion Auxiliary, Joan of Arc Circle #160 and a former member of St. Matthew Circle.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their life time and bowling with the senior league in their retirement years.  She spent a great deal of time tending her flower garden and indoor plants.  She was also a gifted seamstress, worked needlework, crocheting and quilting.  Rita referred to herself as a homemaker and enjoyed her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, David R. (Rae Ann) Lackey, Atchison, KS, Steven J. (Peggy) Lackey, Nortonville, KS, Michael W. (Deatta) Lackey, Canton, KS, two daughters, Carol (Dan) Breneiser, Atchison, KS, Jeanie Lackey, Atchison, KS, grandchildren, Carrie Breneiser, Dana Adams, Christopher Breneiser, Amy Coles, Sarah Mosiman, Eric Lackey, Anthony Lackey, Crista Burk, Bradley Lackey, Brian Lackey, great grandchildren, Stephanie Townsend, Alexis Adams, Jillian Adams, Paige Adams, Nickolas Mosiman, Alexander Mosiman, Carissa Breneiser, Wyatt Burk, Parker Burk, Curry Lackey, Elliot Lackey, great great grandchildren, Lily Townsend, Chase Townsend, Zack Townsend, Drew Townsend, step grandchildren, Nicholas Schmidt, Ryan Schmidt, step great grandchildren, Shalee Schmidt, Karalee Schmidt, Avery Schmidt, Cade Schmidt, Ava Schmidt and Easton Schmidt.

Rita was preceded in death by a son, Henry Joseph Lackey, four sisters, Bernice “Bea” Gering, Rosemary Falk, Leona Falk, Genevieve Falk, four brothers, Joseph Keimig, Lawrence Keimig, William Keimig and Louis Keimig.
