Annetta Pauline Hitzemann

Annetta Pauline Hitzemann, age 95, of Tecumseh, formerly of rural Elk Creek, passed away October 14, 2014 at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh.  She was born to George W. and Bertha Pauline (Geyer) Burow at rural Nemaha County, Nebraska.  She was baptized March 23, 1919 and confirmed September 18, 1937 at St. James Lutheran Church, rural Humboldt. Annetta attended Grove School in rural Nemaha County through the eighth grade.

   She was united in marriage to Elmer Hitzemann on September 5, 1940 at St. James Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born, LaVelle and Dianne.  

    Annetta was an involved homemaker and farm wife.  She also worked outside of her home as a cook at the Elk Creek Public School and at Scotty’s Grocery in Elk Creek.

    Annetta loved quilting, baking (she will be especially remembered for her coconut cream pie), vegetable and fruit gardening, and raising flowers both inside and outside of her home.  She was a very active member of the Mary/Martha Circle of the WELCA at St. James Lutheran Church.  

   When her health declined she moved to Ridgeview Towers in Tecumseh and later transferred to Belle Terrace.  

   Annetta is survived by her son, LaVelle Hitzemann and wife Judy of Hampton, daughter, Dianne Frantzen and husband Roger of Beatrice, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Mildred Burow of Tecumseh, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer, brother, Arnold Burow and daughter-in-law, Robin Hitzemann. 

    Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the St. James (Long Branch) Church, rural Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastors Eric and Amalia Spruth-Janssen officiating.   

Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may go to family’s choice. Interment will be in the St. James (Long Branch) Cemetery, rural Humboldt.
