Carl Duane Smith, 81, of Ozawkie, Kansas, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on June 4, 1933 in Whiting, Kansas the son of Sanford and May Wheeler Smith. Carl served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Carl worked at Goodyear, managed a salvage yard and was a caretaker at the Perry Lake Golf Course. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 225. Survivors include two daughters, Caralee (Bruce) Hasty of Effingham, Kansas and Deola Wolfe of St. Joseph, Missouri; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Nancy Jo and a brother, Bob Smith. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Horton Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday morning from 10:00 until service time at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
