Mary Ann Bontrager, 73, of Horton, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born on May 6, 1941 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Anthony (Tony) and Ernestine Peden Schecher. Mary Ann graduated from Horton High School in 1960. On June 15, 1960 she married Galen Wayne Bontrager at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. Mary Ann and Galen owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Horton, Kansas for 32 years. She was a member of the St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Mary Ann was ultimately happy spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, little neighbor children and visiting her friends in the nursing home. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, fishing with Galen, sewing, crocheting and just spending time at home.

Survivors include, her husband, Galen W. Bontrager of the home, two sons, Steve (Jody) Bontrager of Larkspur, Colorado and Rick (Jodie) Bontrager of Jefferson City, Missouri; daughter, Kimberly (Rob) Meadows of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Robert (Mici) Schecher of Everest, Kansas and Charles (Bernetta) Schecher of Horton, Kansas; sister, Toni (Johnnie) Andrews of Everest, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Kristen, Derek, Brent, Cole, Annika, Damon, Wes and Alec. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara McClaskey and brother, James Schecher.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening at the St. Leo's Catholic Church with family visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at the St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Autism Speaks or to Down Syndrome and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
