TOPEKA-Bernard “Bernie” Schuetz, 78, of Topeka, formerly Circleville and Lake of the Ozarks, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born April 19, 1936 in Horton, the son of Donald and Margaret Schuetz. He graduated from Powhattan High School and later Vo-Tech in Topeka. Bernie was employed with Goodyear Tire from 1955-1997 and retired as a fork lift driver. In 1972 he married Sharon Bosley-Williams in Miami, Oklahoma. Bernie was formerly a member of the Local Union #307, Knights of Columbus #8620, Square Dance Clubs of Holton (1675’ers) Topeka and Warsaw, MO and former member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Warsaw, MO. He had most recently attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka.

He is survived by: his mother, Margaret Schuetz of Horton, KS; his wife, Sharon, of Topeka, KS; his children, Jim Schuetz of Topeka, KS, Jill Lewis (David) of Mulvane, KS, Sherri Israel (late husband Jerry) of KC, MO, Pat Bordewick (Kevin) of Topeka, KS, Vicki Schweinler (Kurt) of Emporia, KS and Lori Lowrey (Larry) of Bentonville, AR; his sisters, Donna Bottom (Jim) of Horton, KS, Cheryl McAfee (Pat) of Horton, KS and Mary Becker (Bill) of Denton, KS; his brothers, Leslie Schuetz (Lanora) of Hoyt, KS, Dale Schuetz (Carol) of Powhattan, KS, Rick Schuetz (Peggy) of Hoyt, KS and Randy Schuetz(Carrie) of Holton, KS; and his 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Mercier Cemetery. The rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Midland Hospice House in Topeka and may be left in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
