Matthew Weishaar, 31, Kansas City, Missouri, died Thursday, September 11, 2014.

Funeral Services will be Friday, September 19, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow in Hart Cemetery, Nortonville, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, September 18th, from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church School Grant Fund or the YMCA and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Matthew was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Matthew was born December 16, 1982 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Jack B. Weishaar and Deb Oswald Weishaar.  He attended Atchison Elementary School, graduating from Atchison High School in 2001, where he was selected All-State in football. He wrestled in high school taking second place in state his senior year.  He graduated from Butler Community College, in 2003, where he was All Jayhawk Conference fullback, All American in track, javelin and weight throw. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2005, where he was a Division 1 fullback for the SIU football team. While there he also participated in the weight throw and javelin in track.

He and Johnna Long were united in marriage in December of 2008 in Atchison, Kansas.  They were later divorced.

Matthew served with the United States Army Reserve since 2008 to present and having served 18 months in Iraq. He received the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

Matthew enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing softball and was an avid sports enthusiast and Chiefs fan and also boxed professionally. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and being a loving father.

Survivors include his mother, Deb Weishaar, Atchison, KS, his father, Jack B. Weishaar, Atchison, KS, a daughter, Jayden Weishaar, Olathe, KS, two brothers, B. J. White, Atchison, KS, Jacob Weishaar, Kansas City, MO, paternal grandparents, Edwin and Nancy Weishaar, Nortonville, KS.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lavern Oswald and Ruth Otte and a brother, Jeffery Hutcherson.
