formerly of Hiawatha , KS

Betty L. Jones, 91, formerly of Hiawatha, died Friday morning, September 12, 2014, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

Betty Lou Boyce Peterson Hinton Jones was born April 8, 1923 to George and Nellie  Boyce in Hiawatha , Kansas .  She was the fourth child of their 7 children.  She married Virgil Peterson April 19, 1941 and they had four children.

Betty was a dedicated mother; family was the most important part of her life.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, son Terry, granddaughter Heather and sisters Maude Diamon and Jennie Strunk and brother George Boyce.

Betty is survived by her daughter Kathy Sechler (Gene), Wichita , KS , Pam Peterson, Surprise, AZ and son Tim of Hiawatha, KS .  Her grandchildren Brad Sechler, Jessica Kennedy and Brett Davis.   Her great grandchildren Tyler and Karley Sechler, Alyssa and Kaylee Kelley.  Her sister Viola (Corn), and her brothers Donald, and John Boyce.

She made most of her family’s clothes by hand for years including knitting sweaters even for Barbie dolls.  Always had her hands busy either sewing, knitting, crocheting or doing counted cross stitch.  She loved to make things and give them away as gifts.

Loved for her dinner rolls she made from scratch for all her family dinners.  Not many can say they didn’t take more than their share at one time or other.  One time she was told there were only two kinds of pies her family enjoyed, hot and cold.

She loved to play cards and dominoes with family and friends.  Always loved birds and tending to her flowers and gardens.  Her favorite pet name was Sammie no matter if it was a parakeet or a bull.
