Shirley Amon

Shirley Ann Amon, 65, of Netawaka, KS passed away August 23, 2014 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 5, 1948 in Holton, the daughter of Melvin B. and Aileen E. (Hallauer) Oxandale.

Shirley attended Pleasant View Country School and graduated from Whiting High School in 1966. She had lived all of her married life in the Netawaka community as a homemaker and helping her husband on the farm. Shirley was baptized on March 29, 1958 at Whiting United Methodist Church. She joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka, being confirmed on January 25, 1970. Shirley’s pride and joy were her grandkids. She attended all of her kids’ and grandkids’ events and never missed one, as long as she was able.

Shirley married Larry D. Amon on March 9, 1968 in Whiting. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Kristi Dohl (Christopher) of Netawaka; 2 sons, Doug Amon (Heather) of Netawaka and Travis Amon (Jackie) of Holton; 2 sisters, Linda Howes of Whiting and Bonnie Stauffer (Rodney) of Holton and 8 grandchildren, Austin, Grant, Braden, Kylie, Brantley, Chloe, Rylan and Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Kyler Amon, in 1999.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka with burial following in the Netawaka Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
