Yvette Michele Cook, 54, of Highland, passed away at her home, Tuesday evening, August 19, 2014.

She was born August 3, 1960, at Hiawatha, one of five children born to Virgil and Grace Foster Cruse,  Yvette attended Highland schools, graduating from Highland High School, class of 1978, and Highland Community College in 1980.  She received her bachelor’s in music education in 1985, from the University of Kansas, Lawrence.  

Yvette taught music at Highland Park High School, Topeka, Cowley County Community College, Arkansas City, Highland Schools prior to Highland Community College.

She married Kevin L. Cook of Fremont, OH, in June of 1992 and later divorced in 1997.  

Yvette was a dedicated and active member of Foster Memorial Church in White Cloud where she wore many hats:  Sunday school teacher, served as church secretary, director of music, and activity coordinator.  She loved all types of music.  She loved teaching music to children, singing, and playing her piano, and loved giving piano and voice lessons.

She is survived by two daughters:  Keshana and Kayla, of the home; her father Virgil Cruse of White Cloud; two brothers Greg (Dean) Cruse of Lawrence, Sean Cruse of St. Joseph, MO; two sisters:  Virbeth Cruse of White Cloud, Rebecca Cruse of Lawrence; special caregiver and cousin Donna Watson of St. Joseph; nephews: Zlane, Andron, Stephen; nieces:  Tylesa and Bria.

Yvette was preceded in death by a son Conner; her mother Grace, and a nephew Loushus Cruse.

A celebration of Yvette’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, August 24, at the Culbertson Auditorium on the campus of Highland Community College.  Dr. Cheryl Rasmussen will officiate.  Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha where the family will meet from 6 until 8 Saturday evening.
