Carol A. Hood, age 61, of Waterville, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014, at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids.
Carol was born October 24, 1952, at Axtell to Melvin H. and Annalene "Annie" (Wilhelm) Haverkamp. She graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School in Seneca with the Class of 1970. She received her bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Kansas in 1974. After college Carol taught music at Almena, Garden City, Cunningham and Manhattan. In 1993 she began teaching at Valley Heights Junior/Senior High School, Blue Rapids, where she taught until her retirement in 2010. She touched many students through her love of music.
Carol was very active in the Marshall County community. Including; Relay for Life, Marshall County Community Band, MACT and the Wamego Dutch Mill Sweet Adeline's. She was a member of New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she served as Choir Director and as a musician.
She is survived by her daughter Tonja Metcalf and husband Ted of Waterville, mother; Annie Haverkamp of Seneca, brother, David Havercamp and wife Myra of Seneca, three sisters; Diane Bean and husband Jim of Topeka, Kathy Bahling of Johnson, Nebraska, Myra Jo Koch and husband Dan of Seneca, two grandchildren and one great grand-child, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Melvin H. Haverkamp.
Respect calls begin at noon on Tuesday, with the family greeting guests between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville. The casket will remain closed.
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Grade School Gymnasium in Blue Rapids with Pastor Dick Coleman officiating. Burial will be at St. Bede's Catholic Cemetery, Kelley, Kansas.
Casket bearers are Don Musil, Bob Roepke, Jake Byard, Harry Steinfort, Kenny Steinfort and Kenny Feldhausen. Honorary bearers are Ray Hass and Jeff Peckham.
Memorials are suggested to either the American Cancer Society or New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be sent in care of the funeral home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
